The Eric & Danielle Beverly Scholarship Fund

Munising High School graduate Danielle (Tiernan) Beverly along with her husband, Eric Beverly, established the Eric and Danielle Beverly Scholarship Fund for Munising High School graduates at the Alger Regional Community Foundation. Applications for the annual program which awards a one-time grant in the amount of $500 to a student-athlete who demonstrates leadership and academic excellence will be available in the spring of each year.

According to Danielle, the fund was established to recognize outstanding student-athletes graduating from Munising High School. "Eric and I were both heavily involved in high-school athletics and were very blessed to have received scholarships to help offset our college costs," she says. "Our families sacrificed financially to help us but scholarships like the one I received from the Lions Club definitely made a difference."

After graduating with the Munising High Class of 1992, Danielle used academic and athletic scholarships to earn a bachelor's degree in physical education from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI. and a master's degree in sports administration from Wayne State University in Detroit.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Eric used a football scholarship to attend Miami University (Ohio) where he earned a degree in operations management before beginning a career as a professional athlete with the Detroit Lions in 1997. In 2004, he signed as a free agent with the Atlanta Falcons.

The program gives preference to students who plan to pursue a baccalaureate degree in a medical-related field. "During the first five years of our marriage, I battled breast cancer twice and Eric sustained multiple injuries," says Danielle. "We know the importance of quality and compassionate medical care. We believe that to whom much is given, much is also expected. This is just an opportunity for us to help young people pursue their dreams."

Scholarship applications and information are available at Munising High School in the spring of each year.
