Each year we kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a charity walk honoring those that have been touched by cancer.”

Stake the Lake is a heartfelt event dedicated to celebrating the spirit of cancer survivors and honoring the memory of loved ones who have been touched by cancer. Individuals join us in a walk and also decorate garden stakes to commemorate loved ones impacted by cancer. The personalized garden stakes beautifully line the bay.

Proceeds from Stake the Lake benefit the Alger County Chemotherapy and Mammography Program (CHAMP) Fund. This fund has awarded over $250,000 in grants to help cover treatment-related expenses for Alger County residents battling cancer.

The CHAMP Fund also supports:

• A monthly Awareness Campaign focused on the life-saving importance of early detection.

• Scholarships for Munising High School and Alger County students since 2006.
